On June 28th, 2011 recording artists Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun had an album release party for their album Monumental at Tammany Hall in NYC. It was a peaceful evening until the NYPD ambushed the event and its partygoers.
Five people were arrested that night and labeled the Monumental 5 after the name of the album. The Monumental 5 are James W. Ayala, Gabriel Diaz, Cynthia Rosa, Jade Everett, and Luis Pena. They were assaulted by NYPD and charged with the following:
James W. Ayala: Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
Gabriel Diaz: Assault in the Second Degree, Riot in the First Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
Jade Everette: Assault in the Second Degree, Riot in the First Degree, Resisting Arrest.
Cynthia Rosa: Assault in the Second Degree, Riot in the first degree, Obstruction of Governmental administration in the Second Degree, Disorderly Conduct.
Luis Pena: Assault in the Second Degree, Riot in the First Degree, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct.
